Interview with Montana Ash

Welcome Montana Ash!!!

Before we get started with the interview, i just want to thank Montana for this lovely interview she gave me. I have been a fan of her Elemental Paladins series for a while now and this just tops the cake, so to speak. Okay, lets get started….

What inspired your love of writing? My love of writing has definitely sprung from my love of reading. I was lucky enough to grow up in a household surrounded by books which meant my imagination had plenty of opportunities to run free.

Where did the idea for your books come from? Honestly? I have absolutely no clue! I have constant daydreams or movie reels running through my head. I don’t tend to have many ’empty head’ moments where it’s just me in there. I have so many worlds and so many characters rattling around. I just write whats already up there.

Do you struggle to make the words flow or do they come naturally? They come naturally – most of the time. If I’m not in the groove, I simply don’t bother to sit and write. I never force myself to write. I only write when I want to and when my characters have something to say.

What kind, if any, research do you do before beginning a book, or do you research as you go? I don’t really research before a book. But I do research (lots of Google) as I go if I need to confirm things or make sure they are accurate. I also check in with my street team – Montana’s Minions – to get their opinions on things.

How many hours a day do you strive to reach? I try not to work to time – it makes me itchy. I like to work to word counts instead. If I’m working full time at the day job, I’m happy with 1000 words a day and 5000 words a day on a weekend. But on a day dedicated solely to writing, I love to smash out 7000 words a day.

From all three books so far, what has been your hardest scene to write? The sex scenes! Not because they’re particularly tricky but because I want to make sure they are fresh and different in each book. Gotta keep things interesting.

Out of all three books you’ve written so far, which is your favourite? I have to be loyal to the one that started it all – Warden, book one in the Elemental Paladins series. Max and Ryker are my original kiddies.

Do you read your own books once published? I do actually. Before I write the next book, I always go back and re-read the entire series. At first, it was so weird to read my own stuff, but I’m desensitised to it now and can even have a chuckle at my own work.

Do you have any other genres you wish to explore? For sure! I love young adult and also crime fiction. I also have a huge amount of readers asking me to write a RH book (Reverse Harem).

Okay, that’s about it for your writing experience, I’d just like to ask a few fun questions now.

What is your favourite comfort food? Carbohydrates or chocolate. Pasta, potatoes and milk chocolate.

What do you like to do on your day off? Very cliche, but I love to sit and read a good book. I love going to the movies as well and dinner with friends. Walking the pooch and taking him to the dog park ranks pretty highly too.

Who’s your secret or not so secret crush? In real life? There is no one because all my book boyfriends have ruined real males for me! In books – Ryker from my Elemental Paladins series (I kind of wrote him for myself), Roarke from the In Death series by J.D Robb, Caleb from the Everett Files series by T.J Spade. On the big screen – Chris Hemsworth, Hugh Jackman, Chris Evans and Matt Homer.

And to finish this fabulous interview……..

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want stranded with you? I’d like to be practical and say, toilet paper, sunscreen and matches. But … lets be impractical; Hugh Jackman, chocolate and a library (yes – a whole library!)

Thank you so much for this interview Montana!

I love books. Books soothe me. Books are my escape from the day-to-day mundane. I'm very rarely without a book and my tbr pile is ever growing. I'm a single mother of twin boys and I live in Lincolnshire.
